What it is, and who runs it
SHINDI is a tool your employer pays for, on the WhatsApp number they message you from. Your employer is the one who decides what gets used and who sees it. SHINDI just builds the tool. If you have a problem with how it is being used on your site, that conversation starts with your employer, not with us.
Clocking in: what happens with your location
When you tap to clock in, your phone is asked once for your location at that moment. What gets written down is which site you were on, for example "Fairfield Road, 07:04", not a moving trail of where you have been before or after. Nobody is watching a dot follow you around a map. Once you have clocked in, your phone is not asked again until you clock out.
Your messages are not private like your personal WhatsApp
Say this plainly: messages you send to the company number are not private the way messages to your mates or your family are. Your employer can read them, because they are the ones running the number and paying for the tool. Do not send anything on this thread you would not want your foreman or the office to see. Keep anything personal on a different chat.
What is held about you, and how to see it
What is kept is ordinary and job-related: the hours you clocked, which site you were on each day, any photos or messages you sent to the company number, and a copy of the CSCS card photo you sent in. That card is on file, it has not been checked against any register, so do not rely on it as proof you are entitled to work. Ask your employer for a copy of what is held about you, and for a record of who at the firm has looked at it. They have to give you both.
No score, no league table, no sharing between firms
There is no productivity score, no ranking against your mates, and no league table anywhere in this tool. What is recorded about you on one job is not sent to any other firm, whether a different subcontractor, a different main contractor or anyone else, without you being told first.
How to say no to location, and still get paid
You can tell your employer you do not want your location taken when you clock in. Say so, in person or on the thread, and ask for another way to confirm you were on site. A photo at the gate, or your foreman marking you in by hand both work. Saying no does not affect your pay or your hours; it only changes how your attendance gets written down.
How to complain
If something here is not happening the way this page says, tell your employer first, because most of this is their call, not ours. If you do not get anywhere, or you think your data has been misused, you can write to SHINDI directly at crew@shindi.ai, and you can also raise it with the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for this kind of thing, at ico.org.uk.
